Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1981, she began covering for the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was on a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including arms control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
